Five-Kopek Coin, 1763–1796
During the reign of Catherine the Great, Russia issued very large copper five-kopek coins. These would have served as an important denomination in everyday transactions of the era. The coins are crudely struck and vary in weight from about 45 grams to 55 grams. The date is encircled by a wreath and a double-headed eagle. The two-headed eagle symbolizes Russia's geographical location in the middle of Europe and Asia, and the two heads are needed to watch over the two continents to protect Russia's people.
Banknotes, 1910–1917
This set includes four different large-format banknotes dated from 1909 to 1917. Some of the most beautiful banknotes ever created were printed in Russia during the end of the reign of the last czar. Intricate designs, watermarks and high-quality printing make these notes stand out above most other notes of the era. At the time these notes were first issued, these were extremely high-value notes. Gold coins circulated in five- and 10-rouble denominations. The 250-rouble note would have been the same value as 50 five-rouble gold coins.

• 250 roubles 1917: green and lilac with two-headed eagle; 175 mm x 104 mm
From 1613 to 1917, Russia was ruled by the Romanov Dynasty; the last Czar was Nicholas II. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, Nicholas II gave up his throne, however, he and his family were still imprisoned. Bolshevik revolutionaries most likely shot and killed the czar and his family in of 1918. These notes still bear the Romanov crest.
