Product Overview

This collection includes premium quality proof-like coin sets for each year from 1962 through to 1967. All six coin denominations issued in each year are included (cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar and silver dollar). While the coins are all in proof-like condition, specially struck by the mint with a mirror finish and near-flawless surfaces, each set has been carefully selected as one of the best surviving sets. All six annual sets come in the original Royal Canadian Mint sealed pliofilm packaging. Except for 1967 when a specimen quality set was also introduced, these are the highest-quality coins issued by the RCM for collectors in each year.

1962/1963/1965/1966 Proof-Like Sets
Silver dollar design:
One of the highlights of the 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1966 is the voyageur silver dollar. The design on each of the dollar coins is the same design as was on Canada's first dollar coin issued in 1935. It features an Indigenous person and a voyageur (a travelling agent for a fur company), paddling a canoe past a small island with two wind-swept trees. The vertical lines in the background represent the Northern Lights.

1962/1963/1964/1965/1966 half-dollar, quarter, dime, nickel and cent:
The half-dollar is also a beautiful coin, featuring an intricate modified coat-of-arms design introduced in 1959. This old silver half-dollar is significantly larger than the current 50-cent coins, and extremely appealing to most collectors. The fronts of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter are the familiar designs still used today, but the backs of all the coins dated 1962, 1963 and 1964 bear the original young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the backs of all the coins dated 1965 and 1966 feature a newer portrait of Queen Elizabeth.

1964 Proof-Like Set
Silver dollar design:
One of the highlights of this set is the special commemorative silver dollar marking the 100th anniversary of the meetings in 1864 held at Charlottetown, PEI and at Quebec City. It was these meetings that resulted in the formation of Canada as a country in 1867. The design on the silver dollar depicts the emblems of four of the country's founding nations: the French fleur-de-lis, the Irish shamrock, the Scottish thistle and the English rose.

1967 Proof-Like Set
In celebration of Canada's 100th birthday, the mint held a competition for special centennial coin designs. After receiving many submissions from artists across Canada, the mint panel selected the wildlife designs of the New Brunswick artist and sculptor, Alex Colville. All of these coins are double-dated 1867–1967 and represent the end of a long era of silver coinage in Canada.
