Product Overview
When sensing danger, the deer raises its tail; this is called "flagging." Showing this large white patch on the underside of the tail signals an alarm to other deer and helps a fawn follow its mother to safety. The deer is a great jumper and runner, and it can reach speeds of up to 58 kilometres per hour.
The white-tailed deer can be found in any forested or bushy area on the continent as long as it has enough food. It can be found from Cape Breton Island to south-central British Columbia and well into the boreal forests of the north. In fact, some have been seen as far as Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories.
Spring is the season of fawns. While the majority are born in late May or early June, some fawns have been born as early as March or as late as August.
This set includes two mint-condition $1 stamps (one first-day cancelled) plus a booklet that is full of fascinating images and facts about the white-tailed deer.
