Product Overview

This Swiss-made stainless-steel CARTIER ROADSTER "S" model wristwatch captures the spirit of refined adventure with its distinctive tonneau-shaped (tonneau means "barrel" in French) 45mm x 40mm stainless steel case and classic silver guilloche dial with black Roman numeral hour markers and an inner minute track. It features luminescent sword-shaped oxidized hands and a black seconds hand. It has an automatic self-winding movement, powered by Cartier’s automatic Caliber 2894 and offers precision beneath a curved scratch resistant sapphire crystal with a cyclops magnifying glass. There is a date calendar at the 3 o'clock aperture and a secret Cartier signature can be found at the 7 o'clock mark. It is attached to a stainless-steel bracelet with a hidden double butterfly clasp. There is a screw-down radiator cap style crown. The watch is water resistant to 330 feet/100 meters. The model # is 3312 and the case is numbered 183566QX. The Roadster delivers timeless design and everyday performance in equal measure.

The tonneau is a shape that was first used by Cartier around 1906. The Cartier Roadster watch was inspired by sports cars from the 1950s, thus the name. It became a popular sports and dress watch, available in both men’s and women’s sizes, as well as in automatic and quartz movements. The watch has models with both Roman and Arabic numerals and both with chronograph and GMT functions. One of the most famous features of a Cartier Roadster model is the dial that takes its inspiration from the Porsche 356 speedometer from the 1950s. It is also likely that the crown was inspired by cars too—some agree that it looks like rally wheels of a Corvette, while others say that it looks like a car radiator. The first Cartier Roadster was released by Cartier in 2001.

The French watchmaker discontinued production of the watch around 2012. Since then, the Cartier Roadster became available only in the pre-owned watch market. Around the late 2000s, Cartier released the Roaster S model. This model got rid of some elements like the screws on the lugs. As one of the most respected watches in the Cartier collections, the Roadster presents a unique mix of classic charm and modern luxury that merges sophistication with a striking, dynamic design. Featuring a distinct curved case and Cartier’s signature Roman numeral dial, this watch distinguishes itself from Cartier's wide range of offerings. The watch may have had a relatively short run, but it continues to be regarded as one of the most iconic sports watches ever produced. From the unique case and distinct design to the high-quality watchmaking, Roadster models continue to be popular.

Founded by Louis-François Cartier in Paris in 1847, Maison Cartier is one of the world’s leading purveyors of fine jewellery and luxury watches. By the turn of the 20th century, the founder’s grandsons, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, set out to make Cartier a global brand with Louis at the helm in Paris, Pierre in the USA, and Jacques in London. Illustrating the timeless appeal of Cartier watches, many of the brand’s current top-selling models were created over a century ago.
