Product Overview

This collection includes a beautiful $10 sterling silver coin, two large $10 blue whale postage stamps and a booklet filled with facts on the blue whale. This set comes displayed in a beautiful maple wood box.

The blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is the largest animal to ever have graced our planet: some can grown to over 30 metres in length and weigh more than 200,000 kilograms. This immense creature feeds almost exclusively on tiny crustaceans called krill: one whale can consume 3,500 kilograms of krill per day. Their survival depends on their ability to identify and locate large clusters of the tiny shrimp-like creatures, and demands that they travel long distances to unpredictable locations—a skill that makes them very difficult for scientists to track. Scientists still do not fully grasp how the whales find krill, nor do they understand many of the whale's other behaviours. Ironically, this giant of the seas remains one of the natural world's most elusive inhabitants.
