Product Overview
This comprehensive 77-piece collection starts with every issue of dollar coin issued for circulation in Canada from the first "nickel dollar" issue in 1968 to the last voyageur design issue in 1986 before the loon dollar was introduced. It also includes every date of half-dollar issued from 1968 to 2021 (note that business-strike half-dollars were not issued in 2003 or 2004). Every coin is in uncirculated condition and the collection comes presented in a custom presentation album.
Dollars
Most of the issues feature the classic voyageur design first introduced in 1935. This design depicts an Indigenous person and voyageur (a travelling agent for the fur trade) on a canoe. In the background there is a small island with wind-swept trees. The bundles on the canoe include the initials "HB," indicating the Hudson's Bay Company.
Commemorative-issue dollars included:
• 1970, Manitoba centennial; prairie crocus design
• 1971, British Columbia centennial; coat of arms design
• 1973, PEI commemorative; provincial legislature buildings
• 1974, Winnipeg centennial; Main and Portage Street, 1874–1974
• 1982, constitution; Fathers of Confederation
• 1984, Cartier 450th anniversary of landing at Gaspé, Quebec
Half-Dollars
This is a complete uncirculated collection of every business-strike half-dollar issued by the Royal Canadian Mint from 1968 to 2023 (except 2003 and 2004). Half-dollars are by far the lowest mintage denomination in Canada, and have not been distributed through the banking system since 1991. Two different 2017 and 2021 coins are included. All 54 coins in this set are uncirculated.
Includes:
• Nickel Dollars and Half-Dollars, 1968–2023 (77 coins total)
