This combination pendant/brooch is a sculptural work of art, creatively made in 14kt yellow gold in the form of a flower and stem. The stem is brilliantly designed with twisting, scalloped ribbons that have been realistically textured and diamond-cut, leading towards a very pretty, layered flower petal setting, with the outer layer textured, and the inner layer brightly high-polished. The very center of the flower is decadently set with seven round beads of multi-coloured Jade, with the brightest white jade in the middle. The other colours are light green, dark green, red, orange, black and taupe; some are opaque and others are semi-transparent. Additionally, the brooch is set with six round sapphires that flash a bright, brilliant blue in the right light.
It is finished on the back with a hidden flip bale, and a long rollover clasp pin, so that it could be worn as either a pendant or a brooch. It measures 6.8cm in length (from the top of the tallest petal to the bottom of the stem, north to south), is stamped “14K” on the bale, and weighs 17.5 grams. Jade has long been considered to be a lucky stone, especially by the peoples of Southeast Asia. It is believed to facilitate access to the spiritual realms, provide protection against negative energies and entities, and also to enhance creativity and imagination.
