Product Overview

This elegant $20 fine silver coin is crafted in honour of the world-renowned stained-glass windows located in Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, British Columbia. The castle is a mansion constructed in the late 1800s by a wealthy coal baron, who requested it be designed in the Scottish Baronial style. Despite its 39 rooms and 28 acres, the many examples of ultra-sophisticated stained-glass windows remain its primary claim to fame.

This coin is the first by the Royal Canadian Mint which celebrates the wide-reaching beauty of this artful glass. The representation of stained glass from Craigdarroch Castle on this coin is enhanced by translucent glass-like enamel that makes the coin shine and reflect light, alluding to the ethereal light-play that actual stained glass creates. The elegant enamel is hand-filled into individual crevices, mimicking the painstaking task of creating stained glass.
