Product Overview

This three-piece collection includes two fine silver coins with lighthouses from Peggy's Cove and Panmure Island, together with a bonus collector plate issued by Canada Post featuring the Sambro Island Lighthouse.

Nova Scotia: Lighthouse at Peggy's Cove Fine Silver Coin
The coin is based on an image by Canadian nature photographer Dale Wilson and features a sea-level view of the rocky shoreline at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. The sun's first rays appear in the horizon to the east, over the calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean; while its return adds a warming glow to the winter sky, the faint daylight illuminates the wave-battered rocks that line this inlet. The iconic Peggy's Cove Lighthouse is seen rising up toward the sky—a familiar landmark since its construction in 1915 (on the site of the previous 1868 lighthouse), and is arguably one of the world's most photographed lighthouses.

Prince Edward Island: Panmure Island Fine Silver Coin
Based on a photograph taken by Canadian photographer Robert Hamilton, the reverse features vibrant colour over the detailed engraved image of a seaside setting in Prince Edward Island. The evening sun casts its golden light upon the landscape, where the island's famously red rocks cast long shadows on the sand. On the grass-covered slope sits the province's oldest wooden lighthouse, the Panmure Island Head, which was built in 1853 on the northeast shore of Panmure Island. This octagonal-shaped lighthouse and the structure next to it appear brighter against the blue sky; adding to the idyllic nature of the scene are the grazing horses to the left of the lighthouse, while to the right, a flock of birds take flight over the water's edge. The reverse also features the engraved word "Canada" and the dates "1867–2017" to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Nova Scotia: Sambro Island Collector Plate
This light tower was built in 1758, and stands stands today at 25 metres high. It's been solarized since 2008, and is also the oldest working lighthouse in North America. This limited-edition collector plate comes with a certificate issued by The Royal Canadian Mint and has a limited production of only 2,000 worldwide.

Sambro Lighthouse watches over the second largest ice-free harbour in the world. The harbour is made up of a wide entrance into a main harbour, followed by a narrow channel which ends in a large basin. The lighthouse marks the entrance to the harbour which is an area of dangerous shoals (30 or more). The lighthouse had 14 keepers from 1759 to 1988; the first was Captain Joseph Rous and the last was Kelly Fairservice Brown. The lighthouse is now automated and solar-powered.
