Product Overview

This 1954 two-dollar banknote is one of the rarest varieties of replacement notes featuring the *R/R prefix. It is a superb very choice uncirculated example which has been independently graded and certified by PMG as Choice Uncirculated 64 with an EPQ (exceptional paper quality) designation.

When banknotes are printed for the Bank of Canada, they are carefully accounted for by the serial numbers. If a sheet of notes is imperfect or damaged in the printing process, (typically about one in every 400 to 500 sheets), it is replaced and accounted for with a special series of replacement notes. On all 1954 series notes, an asterisk is used in front of the serial number to designate a replacement note. Different prefixes are also used, with the *R/R prefix being one of the scarcest and most valuable.
