Product Overview

This is a near-perfect superb gem uncirculated example of Canada's 1951 silver dollar. It has been independently third-party certified as Mint State 65 by the Professional Coin Grading Service, one of the largest and most trusted coin certification services in the world. Only a very small percentage of coins from this era have survived in this exceptional condition, making it both visually appealing and extremely rare for collectors to acquire.

Unlike coins made especially for collectors, business-strike silver dollars like this were normally poured into and out of tote bins by the mint, bulk weighed, counted and then shipped loose to the banks in canvas bags holding 1,000 coins, which would normally bang against each other and cause many surface marks. A coin graded Gem Uncirculated 65 will have only minimal marks, a sharp strike and will be far more attractive than a typical example from the same year. It will typically be one of the best surviving one or two coins from an entire original bag of 1,000.

The reverse design features an Indigenous person and a voyageur in a canoe paddling past an island with wind-swept trees. The obverse design features a portrait of King George VI.
