Product Overview

This collection includes 50 superb near-flawless silver proof-like sets issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. The 50 sets are a mix of dates from 1963 to 1966, including coins with both the first young effigy and the second mature effigy of Queen Elizabeth. Each set includes all six coin denominations issued (cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar and silver dollar). The dime, quarter, half-dollar and silver dollar in each set are made of .800 fine silver, for a total of 1.11 ounces in each set. In addition to their collector value, this 50 set group contains 55.5 ounces of pure silver.

Many silver coins were melted down for their bullion value from the late 1960s to the early 1980s when silver approached $50 per ounce, so the number of sets available for collectors today is significantly reduced. These 50 coin sets include a total of 300 proof-like coins that have all survived in superb, near-perfect condition. These are the highest-quality coins specially issued for collectors in these years, and feature razor-sharp designs and mirror finish surfaces.

Silver Dollar Designs
• 1963, 1965 and 1966: the design on the dollar coin is the same design as was on Canada's first dollar coin issued in 1935, featuring an Indigenous person and a Voyageur (a travelling agent for a fur company), paddling a canoe past a small island with two wind-swept trees; the vertical lines in the background represent the Northern Lights
• 1964: this year marks the 100th anniversary of the meetings in 1864 held at Charlottetown, PEI and at Quebec City, resulting in the formation of Canada as a country in 1867; the design also depicts the emblems of four of the country's founding ethnic groups: the French fleur-de-lis, the Irish shamrock, the Scottish thistle and the English rose

Half-Dollar Designs
• 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966: these designs feature an intricate and modified coat-of-arms introduced in 1959; this silver coin is significantly larger than the current 50-cent coins, and is extremely appealing to most collectors

Quarter, Dime, Nickel and Penny Designs
• 1963, 1964, 1965, and 1966: the fronts are the familiar designs still used today

Effigy Portraits
The 1963 and 1964 coins feature the original young portrait of Queen Elizabeth. Starting in 1965, a more mature effigy of the Queen replaced the young portrait.
