This lovely floral pin is custom crafted in yellow gold with a scrolling ribbon and leaf design. Six high polished wire bars, graduating in length, span horizontally from the center of the scroll design with the longest bar in the middle, tapering on each side. Mounted atop of the wires, creating a 'V' formation are five prong-set round shaped synthetic rubies. The pin, around the back, has a push-in release clasp.
Contrary to what many people may think, the word “synthetic” does not mean fake when it comes to gemstones. The term actually comes from the Greek word for “to put together.” People “build” or, more accurately, “grow” synthetic crystals. They do this by using chemicals that, given the proper environment, arrange themselves into crystals of essentially the same structure as crystals that grow without human intervention. A synthetic gem is a man-made material with essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical and physical properties as the natural gem material. Synthetic gemstones are more likely to be rich and vivid in color, and are virtually inclusion or blemish-free when you look at them. The late 1800's saw the introduction of such gemstones.
