Product Overview
One of the most popular sets of coins produced each year by the Royal Canadian Mint is the Specimen Set. This collection features some of the highest-quality coins struck for collectors, all housed in an elegant book-format presentation. Six denominations from five cents to two dollars are featured, including the elusive low-mintage half-dollar which is not issued for circulation. The highlight of the set is a unique one-dollar coin featuring a black-footed ferret. This highly collectible coin cannot be found in circulation or in any other coin set. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

While the presentation and quality of coins are excellent, this set remains affordably priced for collectors or to give as a gift, and is ideal for marking the birth of a new baby, or for any birthday, graduation, wedding or other event.

Unique Commemorative Loon Dollar Design: Black-Footed Ferret
Designed by Caitlin Lindstrom-Milne, this special $1 coin features a black-footed ferret in its natural grassland habitat, where it pauses at the edge of a burrow surrounded by grama grass. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

About the Black-Footed Ferret:
Canada's only native ferret, the black-footed ferret fell victim to disease and the loss of both its prairie habitat and prey. It is currently listed as "extirpated" (locally extinct) under the Canadian Species at Risk Act, with the last confirmed record of its existence in the wild dating back to 1937. Starting in 2009 an initial effort was made to re-introduce the black-footed ferret into western Canada, but to date it has not been successful.
