Each year the Royal Canadian Mint issues a small quantity of premium four-piece fine gold coin sets. This newest rendition has a mintage of just 500 and features a design superimposing Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Diadem crown over a Canadian maple leaf. The one-ounce coin adds an additional element of interest with a platinum-plated accent.
The design pairs two sugar maple leaves with an artistic interpretation of the Diamond Diadem worn by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The overlapping arrangement on the one-ounce coin is enhanced with platinum plating as a tribute to the Diamond Diadem. On all four coins, the reverse includes the words "Canada," the coin's purity and weight, and the year "2022." Each obverse features the historic effigy of Her Majesty by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

Her Majesty wore the diadem in the famous accession portrait taken by Dorothy Wilding and during the coronation procession in 1953. The Diamond Diadem is set with 1,333 sparkling diamonds, including the four-carat pale yellow sparkler at the centre of the front cross pattée. The crosses alternate with a floral design that incorporates the national emblems of England (rose), Ireland (shamrock) and Scotland (thistle). Sculptor and medalist Dora de Pédery-Hunt, CM OOnt, was the first Canadian to design a royal effigy for our coinage.
