Product Overview

This gentleman's BREITLING MONTBRILLANT OLYMPUS CHRONOMETRE Swiss-made wristwatch is made of stainless steel and has a 42mm case diameter, a round shaped off-white dial, luminescent Arabic numerals with metallic and luminescent hands. There is a 60 second sub-dial at the 12 o'clock, a moon phase dial at the 3 o'clock, a day-of-the-week dial at the 6 o'clock, and a month dial at the 9 o'clock. There is a bi-directional rotatable outer bezel, a tachymeter and sapphire crystal. It runs on an automatic Swiss made movement. The watch has a commemorative case back depicting the first Breitling manufacturing building on Rue Mont Brilliant Street in La-Chaux-de Fonds, Switzerland, where Léon Breitling opened his watch factory in 1892 after relocating from Saint-Imier. The back reads "Léon Breitling FABRIQUE D'HORLOGERIE MONTBRILLIANT OLYMPUS MANUFACTURE EN SUISSE with reference # A19350 and case # 2030559. The watch is attached to a stainless-steel bracelet with a double fold-over clasp signed Breitling. The watch comes with the original box and instruction manual.

The name Montbrillant refers to chronographs endowed with a wealth of tradition and exclusive features. One such model is the Montbrillant Olympus, a chronograph inspired by the finest products made by the brand in the course of its history. The beaded bezel, for example, is a faithful reproduction of the first chronographs equipped with a slide rule. The two-tone dial clearly distinguishes the timekeeping zone from the logarithmic scales. Yet it is the mechanism of the Montbrillant Olympus that best reflects Breitling’s strong attachment to tradition. Caliber 19 is a highly complex movement, made up of almost 250 components, enabling not only the measurement of short times but also the simultaneous indication of the date, the day, the month and the moon-phases. The mechanism is programmed to provide this information without any need for adjustments throughout a complete leap-year cycle, meaning four years.

Breitling is a Swiss luxury watch brand founded by Léon Breitling in 1884. Léon Breitling was a skilled watchmaker who crafted both timepieces and intelligent measuring tools in his workshop. Breitling is the inventor of the chronograph and winner of many awards for quality and performance so it makes perfect sense that the company has an excellent reputation. Breitling was the first to put the chronograph inside a wristwatch and enable an easy-to-use function inside of the watch. Famous celebrities, such as Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are Breitling owners.

On the whole, Breitling watches hold their value on the resale market, even with age which is why their vintage models remain incredibly popular. It's a combination of provenance, quality, and innovative features that makes a Breitling watch so investible and valuable as a collector. Breitling began by creating aircraft cockpit instruments. The brand introduced the first chronograph wristwatch and subsequently created some of the first pilot watches. From being a pioneer in aviation, Breitling today creates timepieces for land, sea, and air.
