Product Overview

Just 7,500 of this unusual solid one-ounce pure-silver collector-edition 50-cent coin have been released as part of a new series that includes all of Canada's regular coin denominations plus this denomination, which is no longer issued for circulation. The coin includes a "W" mint mark to highlight that the coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg; most collector coins are struck at the mint's Ottawa location. The background field includes straight lines meeting on an angle in the centre inspired by the striking exterior of the Winnipeg facility.

The coin is even more interesting because this is one of the last coins to feature the posthumous effigy of Queen Elizabeth. While Queen Elizabeth half-dollars were struck in early 2023, the first regular-strike King Charles half-dollars were introduced at the end of 2023. Except for this special-issue silver coin, all regular 2024 half-dollar coins will feature the effigy of the new King.

• Exclusive bonus: two different regular composition 2023 half-dollars will also be included, one featuring the effigy of Queen Elizabeth and one with King Charles
