Product Overview

This premium-quality comprehensive collection includes every denomination and date of coins issued during the reign of King George V from the cent to the dollar, except for the ultra-rare 1921 five-cent and half-dollar, plus three uncirculated gold coins. One hundred and twelve coins are included in total, presented in two mahogany finish cases.

The silver dollars, which were introduced in 1935 and continued in 1936, are both in brilliant uncirculated condition. The highlight of the collection is a set of all three different denominations of Canadian gold coins issued for circulation during his reign. This includes a C-mint-mark gold sovereign dated from 1911 to 1919 (which circulated at a four-dollar value which was then equal to one British pound), a five-dollar gold coin dated from 1912 to 1914, and a $10 gold coin dated from 1912 to 1914. All three gold coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition.

Other highlights include many rare key date coins, such as the 1932 half-dollar. This is Canada's second-lowest mintage coin ever issued for circulation, with a mintage of just 19,213. This is only 433 coins more than the ultra-rare 1948 silver, and the survival rate of the 1932 half-dollar is likely much lower than the silver dollar.

The era of King George V saw many changes to Canadian coinage. In 1920, one-cent coins changed from the old large format to a new smaller size. In 1922, five-cent coins changed from small silver coins for larger nickel coins. Dimes, quarters and half-dollars changed from .925 sterling silver to .800 fine silver after 1919. The new dollar denomination was introduced in 1935. Gold sovereign coins were discontinued after 1919, and five- and ten-dollar coins were issued for just three years from 1912 to 1914.
